Best Blog Hosting Review Guide

Discover The Best Blog Hosting

Blogs have made web presence accessible to almost everyone. They are easy to maintain and east to add content to. They also make communication with your readers a matter of allowing for comments. Some of the best blog posts ever made have been made great because of the interaction of the readers of that blog.

So you want to host your own blog. What do you do and where do you start?

There is a fundamental first choice that you have to make. Do you host your own blog, or do you host your blog on someone else's platform. The key questions here are control and flexibility. You give up a good deal of both if you choose to host your blogs on remote platforms. If your requirements are simple, then perhaps this is the best option. The best free blog host is perhaps Blogger, which is owned by Google. The other main choice for free blog hosting is probably Wordpress.com. This is not to be confused with the version of Wordpress that you host on your own site.

In both the case listed above, you can set up your blogs quite quickly and easily, choose a theme and away you go.

There are however limitations.

You cannot enhance your blog with third party plugins for example. This is the kind of functionality that helps make the blogs your own, and helps to create your identity.

The second major problem is that should Google or Wordpress suddenly decide that they don't like your blog for any reason (and it does happen, believe me) then your blog is at risk of being deleted. Years of hard work can be gone in an instant. The truth is that if you rigidly stick to the TOS of either of these behemoths, then you should be ok, but sometimes things happen outside of your control, so there is always a risk.

Do you want to take that chance?

If you choose to host your own blog, then you do have a little more work to do. Firstly, you will have to choose someone to host the blog for you. You will need to assess their suitability, and then get cracking.

The platform of choice for most bloggers who host their own blogs is probably Wordpress. This differs to Wordpress.com in that you host the scripts yourself. The software is free, but you have to install it yourself. However, it is not as hard as it sounds. Any blog host worth their salt will provide you with a control panel, which in turn has a facility to install things such as Wordpress almost automatically. It is really very straightforward.

If your blog host does not provide you with a control panel (also known as cpanel) then steer well clear of them.

Here are some additional questions that you need to ask of any blog hosting company.

  • How well will you be supported?
  • How much hard disk space will they provide ?
  • How much bandwidth will they provide??

There is undoubtedly some great deals to be had in terms of blog hosting. However, be very careful in assessing blog hosts purely on the basis of price. It would be very painful to find that you have made a mistake six moths down the line.
